The Mystery of Faith

The Mystery of Faith is the first ‘Faith Day’ planned by St Theodore’s Church in Port Talbot, and all are welcome! Taking place on Saturday March 12th right at the beginning of Lent, we will reflect on the death and resurrection of Christ. Here’s more details about the day.

We proclaim the Mystery of Faith at the heart of the Eucharist.  As soon as we have witnessed bread and wine being transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ, it seems we cannot keep silent.

“As soon as we have witnessed bread and wine being transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ, it seems we cannot keep silent.”

Let us proclaim the Mystery of Faith is the invitation which comes from the priest, and the people say or sing: “Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come in glory!”

Yes, at the heart of our Faith’s Mystery is the Death and Resurrection of the Lord, and we receive all the benefits of his saving death in the Eucharist.

During our few hours together on Saturday March 12th at St Theodore’s Church, Port Talbot, there will be room for song and silence, for prayer and contemplation.  We will dwell on God’s Word, celebrate the Eucharist and other sacraments, as we reflect on the saving death and resurrection of Christ.  What does it mean for the church, for us, for the world?

In a world acquainted with suffering is Jesus, the Suffering Servant himself, acquainted with grief, the one whose wounds are life-giving, and whose love transforms the world.  It is love which takes him to the cross, and it is the power of his love, displayed in his resurrection from the dead, which deals with sin, dispels death, gives hope and a future worth living.

“In a world acquainted with suffering is Jesus, the Suffering Servant himself, acquainted with grief, the one whose wounds are life-giving, and whose love transforms the world.”

So, why not join us?   There’ll be time in between each session for you to spend as you see fit, in prayer or reflection, indoors or outdoors, chatting to others, enjoying fellowship, or simply help yourself to a tea or coffee.

“This is the first of what we hope will be many Faith Days at St Theodore’s,” said Fr Ben Andrews, “each with a different guest speaker and guide – not just from the diocese but from around the UK. We look forward to welcoming as many different people as possible for a time of prayer, praise, rest, celebration and teaching.”

Fr Dean Atkins (from South Cardiff Ministry Area) is the guest speaker and preacher of the first Faith Day. He will lead us through Scripture as we grow more deeply into the Mystery of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection.
